How Long Does it Take for SEO to Work?

The work you do now may not pay off immediately but will later in life. This is a truism that we see all the time throughout our lives. The same holds true for website optimization.
It can take six months to one year for the work you do on your site now to have a real effect on your rankings. In fact, the folks over at Agency Jet Marketing created a nice screenshot showing this to be true.
You can see in the image above that SEO work was started in August and had some effect starting three months later. It wasn’t until almost a year later that the traffic really started to take off.
Optimization Timeline
First, you should optimize the existing content of the site. You can do this with your WordPress site by using a plug-in like All-in-One SEO. But it is not an automated process. The plug-in is really just a guide. You have to go over each page and get the page score as high as you possibly can. The work is intensive and time-consuming. And this is if you actually know what you are doing. If you are new to the process it will take twice as long or more.
The next step you should take is to work on your inbound linking. You can trade links with fellow business owners and leave comments on blogs which allow you to also insert a backlink. These are the best ways to build some inbound links.
Finally, Keep adding content and optimizing your pages as you go. The SEO game is a marathon and not a sprint. Those who stick with it and doggedly optimize, even when there is no immediate payoff, win the race. But its a race with no finish line. So its important to keep going.
