Unable to Add Tags in WordPress Post? – How to Fix

Recently we noticed that there seems to be a problem when posting new blog posts in WordPress. The issue occurs with the tags function. We type in the tag word and click enter and then the post saves and refreshes without ever adding the tag.
Of the 50 sites we manage this was happening with about 15 of them. It just started happening recently too. So we introduced some deductive reasoning and concluded that it was probably a plug-in update which was producing a bug.
When comparing and contrasting all the sites we found they all had just two plug-ins in common. We did some testing on those plug-ins and they turned out not to be causing the issue. Could it be WordPress itself causing the problem? As it turns out, yes. And we found a fix.
If you are having the issue where you are not able to add tags to your posts or other little glitches like this are happening, try re-installing WordPress. This fixed our problems.
To reinstall WordPress:
- Hover your mouse over “Dashboard” in the WordPress menu and click “Updates”.
- Click “Re-Install Version xyz”
It may say you have the latest version of WordPress but re-install it anyway. This should fix your bug. If this doesn’t fix it please feel free to reach out to us and we can help you find a solution.
