Can I Use AI to Generate Content for My Website?

Should you use ai to generate website content?

I mean, you could. But it won’t do you any good and you are not fooling anyone. The very same AI that allows a bot to write paragraphs of legible coherent text also allows other programs to detect when the content was written by a robot.

Google Has Been Clear

In Google’s Guide to AI Generated Content they say “Using automation—including AI—to generate content with the primary purpose of manipulating ranking in search results is a violation of our spam policies.” In other words, they will assign a post an ‘AI score’ and if it is high enough then the entire post will be regarded as spam.

This is why you see “spam score” next to many of the website diagnostic tools. If a site is largely is made from spam that number will be very high (10%+). If a site has very low-to-no auto-generated content then the score will be very low (0%-4%).

Chat GTP vs Originality.ai

ChatGPT has been all the rage as of late. People have had fun plugging in a variety of topics to see what it shoots out. It does a great job too. But some content creators and SEO’s have decided to try their hand at generating content for themselves or their customers by using it. This is a SEO NO NO.

Originality.ai is the antithesis of ChatGPT. It checks content against algorithms in order to detect AI production. It also runs a scan to see if the content has been plagiarized. At the end of the scan you get an AI score as well as a plagiarization score. The lower the score the better.

Google uses a similar program to detect artificial intelligence use in AI creation. At best your page will be ignored by Google. At worst, it will be punished.

Conclusion

Put in the work. Write the article. NO free lunches.
