Single Page Optimization

learn how to optimize you article on the webThere is not point in having a very optimized page that is within a website which is itself not optimized. Google would not see this page as the “single great apple in a basket of rotten apples”, rather, they would just see it as a basket of rotten apples. With that said, I am going to discuss the proper optimization of a single page.

Industry practices in this matter change all the time as Google itself changes. It is important to stay updated on all the algorithm changes at Google by reading their various blogsContinue reading

Having a Good Website is Still a Must

website vs social media for businessMany businesses are having great success using their social media to keep customers informed. A Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page can be your number one asset when it comes to communicating directly with your current or potential customers. Mobile vs. Laptop Usage

mobile vs laptop 2018In the business of designing and optimizing websites, it helps to know who your target audience is. It also helps to know what devices people will be using to look at your websites.

For the purpose of this article, “desktop” and “laptop” will be combined and be simply referred to as “laptop”. The nature of this article is to determine mobile device browsing vs. non-mobile device browsing regarding website design and optimization.

It has long been known that mobile devices would take over as the single most used type of computer device that people use to browse the web. A recent study suggests the number is about half and half. I don’t think this is the relevant statistic though. To me, the relevant question is to ask who uses mobile devices exclusively vs. those people who use a mix of the two. (I will leave out people who use laptops only and don’t use mobile devices because those numbers are so low that they are negligible.) Continue reading

When I Share a Link on Facebook I Get No Preview Image

preview image not showing for facebookFacebook is a lot of things. It is probably the best pure social media platform there is in regards to connecting with friends old and new. It helps small businesses grow by connecting them with their customer base. For all of its advantages it does suffer some imperfections and some of them are down right annoying.

One thing that tends to happen to a company as large as Facebook is they create a product so large that it gets beyond their full control. They make changes and just keep rolling forward. Something that may have worked perfectly fine for years, does not work any longer. And with Facebook, there is no real support staff. Their logic is that “hey, its free, why should we care what you think?” Have you ever tried to contact Facebook directly? It is laughable.  Continue reading

Test Your Contact Forms Often

contact for tips seo melbourneThis week I was looking for a new landscaping company to cut and trim my grass. I went to a couple of their websites and filled out the contact form then clicked “send”.  What happened next is why I am writing this blog.

The forms (on two different sites) returned an error page which meant that they was broken. It made me think, “how long have these forms been broken and how much business have these companies lost because of this?”. Personally, I try to test the contact forms a few times a month for each one of my clients. But, if you are a business owner, you should test it weekly. Think about if you never got that big client that you currently have. That would be infuriating.  Continue reading

SSL Certificate is a Must for Your Site Immediately

With 90% of  all internet searches done using Google and 50-60% of all internet users using Google Chrome as their browser of choice, it is imperative to optimize your site to their specifications. Google is always tweaking and changing their search algorithms to better improve the user’s experience. Most recently, Google has made it clear they want all websites to have an SSL certificate.

This certificate is a virtual certification that is installed on the server by the host that shows that the site is secure. In reality, it is just one small piece of security that may add to the visitor’s web safety (or at least feeling of safety). A secure website has less chance of being hacked through contact forms and other scripts running on the site. Continue reading

Website Ranking and WordPress Plug-Ins

In the late two thousand teens the complexity of what actually composes a website has grown. Now, websites are made up of several key ingredients, all put together and served to the viewer. Google is aware of the way WordPress (or any other CMS for that matter) works and have changed their algorithms over time to adjust to them. The main factors that Google cares about when it comes to WordPress sites are site speed and site security.

Speed

If a website is loaded down with plug-ins and advertisements and takes over 5 seconds to fully load, you can bet that Google will punish it. Continue reading

Google Now Has SEO Spam Alerts

Spam filter word cloudThose website owners that use Google Analytics for their websites now have the option of using a tool that lets them know whether or not their content has spam in it. This is one of the biggest tools out there and one that is going to help website owners with the content that they provide to their audiences. When a keyword is played out too much and it is found in awkward areas throughout the content, it can cause the content to read much like spam would on a poor website. This is what the new tool is going to let the owner know.

What to Do if Your Website Content Reads as Spammy?

This might seem like a silly question, or even a tool that you do not think is going to be useful. However, with the proper SEO tactics and content, not only can your website rank much higher, but it will read much better overall. Changing the content to conform to Google’s new SEO policies can help your readers gain insightful information from your website, while also helping you rank higher in Google’s eyes. What is a responsive website?

Responsive design and web devicesWe’ve all been there.  We have whipped out our smart phone to search for something. We think we have found the perfect web site for what we are looking for.  The site looks like it has the product we were searching for.  Perhaps you were looking for the newest gaming system. You’ve touched on the picture of the system you want only to be directed to something totally different.  The picture you resized on your phone didn’t hold and you ended up touching something else. After a few additional tries you finally have the product on your screen.  After reading the description of the product, you aren’t so sure you were thinking of the same thing as what you’re looking at.  The picture isn’t clear. And there is no pricing information.  Maybe there’s a “help” icon that you can touch for a phone number.  As you search the website for help you realize there is no “help” icon and you’ve just spent 30 minutes searching for something with no results.  You move on to another web site.
