You are probably already familiar with Google Algorithms or at the very least know what they are. When they roll out new implementations they give them cute little names like “Panda” and “Penguin”. Well Google has rolled out a new algorithm and guess what?.. you guessed it, it has a cute nickname. It is called “Hummingbird”.
While the last algorithm changes were focused more on eliminating spam and rewarding sites that have real and valuable content, Hummingbird focuses on providing accurate results for real life questions. An example would be if you typed “where can I buy a dog house in Melbourne Florida?”. The idea is that people can type and speak (talk to text or voice search) more naturally and get the best results. In a way, Google is trying to be a little more like Jeeves 😉
The Hummingbird algorithm was first implemented 4-6 weeks ago from what we have found and is a constantly changing program. There will probably be no drastic changes for most industries from this algorithm change and the changes that do occur will be subtle.
